L-I-B-R-A-R-Y

Let’s talk about work, shall we? I work in a library and I’m basically always:
- annoyed
- dreamy
- slow
- hungry

I’ll explain. For my work, I have to put back books in their original habitat, which isn’t that exciting, but hey, it’s work. When I get there I put my bag in a locker and run upstairs. I try to find my parents, who also work at that same library, and say hi. I love love love the puzzled faces of visitors/ co-workers who see me greeting my parents. It’s just so funny.

Annoyed
Why am I annoyed? I’m annoyed because my work is just so stoopid. Like, anyone can do it. I’m also annoyed because I’m always slow and my co-workers are fast, and because I’m always hungry and think of food. And because I get stoopid questions that I just can’t answer, like: “Where can I find this book? I searched for it, but it’s not there.” Well, maybe that is because SOMEONE IS READING IT NOW AT HOME. “But the computer says it’s here.” Then the computer’s wrong. “Computers are never wrong.” Get lost.
Also, I hate people who are actually older than me, calling me miss. Especially when they’re seventeen. I am sixteen. It’s just wrong. Or people who wear clothes which protect them from rain. I would be putting books back and hear ‘swoosh’ behind me. Have you got any idea how scary that is? And they don’t stop. They just go swooshing around me, as if they’re running in circles around me, to annoy me. Oh, or people who stare at me. That’s just scary. Like they’re thinking “am I going to ask my silly question to her or do I think she’s too young to understand?” I get nervous when people are looking at me, especially when they work at the library. It’s like they think “I WILL GET HER FIRED, I WILL GET HER FIRED, NANANANANAA”. So far for the annoying part, and I don’t think I’ve even said everything.

Dreamy
Why am I dreamy? Well, partly because I’m just a dreamy person, who get’s lost in her own world too often, and partly because the work is just so boring. I have to put the books back exactly on alphabet, which confuzzles me sometimes. A lot of times I’m just thinking too much about other stuff and walk around with a C-book in the F-section. But you can’t honestly blame me. The work is just so dreary that anyone would think of other things, in my case food. I do like putting back the novels, because I love reading and a lot of times I secretly read the cover and start my own story in my head. I’ve got a writers-mind, I can’t help that I’m dreamy.

Slow
Why am I slow? Becaaaause.. I’m a Taurus? Taurus-peeps are meant to be slow peeps. I don’t know. I get dreamy, yeah, I don’t pay attention, that’s why I’m slow. And because I read the covers of books instead of putting them back instantly. And because I am not good in putting books back on alphabet. It’s hard, you know.

Hungry
Why am I hungry? Okay, this is actually my fault. I don’t eat enough at school and I forget I have to work, or I don’t eat my last sandwich before I go to work. So I would be working for two hours without eating, and it’s not, not, not fair that I sometimes have to put back the books about food. I can’t stand seeing delicious salads or freshly baked bread on the covers when I’m hungry. It’s also not fair that when I leave the library, there’s a CHINESE RESTAURANT nearby who loves to tease me with it’s awesome aromas. It should definitely make it’s own perfume.

No, I do actually like working at the library. There’s fun parts too, like being inside the cosy wosy warm library when it’s raining reaaally hard outside. Or drinking the most delish hot chocolate in the world free, when the ordinary people have to pay for their drinks. Or sneaking into the Personnel Only rooms, because I WORK THERE AND YOU DO NOT.
Booya. I don’t care all the people who work there are aged 30+. Well, I do, but I earn money. Not a lot, though, but.. I.. like.. books? I get them for free! I mean.. Shuddap.

yay! first reply for this one! :D

Every job has it's annoying parts.. like with my job.. i really hate itr when people ask me for directions in a neigbourhood I don't like to come because of it's high crimerate.. (I have to deliver mail there :( ) and other people they ask me if i got mail for them and they don't say where they live.. like.. how the hell am I supposed to know who the hell you are.. you all look the same to me :P left eye in right eye out..
and well there's many more anoying things to my job, i can't eat for like 6 hours if i forgot my food from home ... so well.. that's pretty sucky.. and well bakerys and stuff is where you have to get your food then.. but like.. you don't have time to eat it if you want to be done within your contract hours, which already is almost impossible.

my job has some anoying parts to it, but the good thing is the money ^^

That's quite a story Im. As I happen to work in a library (as you may know) I know how important the work is you do. Putting stuff back where it belongs, and checking whether books have been put back correctly is vital. If a computer says an item is "in", than it's in. That's what a customer sees. Now if he/she can't find the item because it has been wrongly placed back we have a problem. I know and agree with you it's not a very exciting job, but heck it's a paying job and it keeps you dry. Love Romke

I am perfectly aware of the money. Though I want more.

T, your story made me laugh. People asking you for mail is very funny. We always call post-delivery-peeps Ted. Even if they're female.

Hey Imzie,

I'm at home.I'm ill. And I'm soooooo bored. So this is not as much a comment to your last post as a way to keep myself busy :P You're probabely enjoying the geographyclass now, ahem.I can see Mr. de Groot, alias Onno, standing in front of the blackboard, mumbling about some sort of geographic fact. I wonder if all the cool geography people are still quarreling over the schoolpaper, most likely they are:P But to make this comment in a way related to your post I will tell something about my job. As you know I work in a health shop. That means that every saturday, moody, old people come to ask me if I can give them some 100% natural drug to cure their piles (that's "aambeien" in Dutch) or worse (yes, that is possible). Sometimes people ask me what they bought the last time they were at the shop, like I remember... Still, I like working there, mostly because I have a very cool boss and I have so much fun with her. Besides it's very cool to learn wich plants cure physical complaints and stuff. Although I'm not sure if my friends think it's cool also, because I'm always telling them what they should (and more annoying) should not eat:P Well, this was pretty much what I had to say. One more thing, please keep writing Im!!! You're so funny!!! Partly because I recognize so much of the things you write about and partly because, well probabely just because you're a talented writer. Boy, am I sucking up to you:P
see you on monday XXX

Oooh An, I missed you today! Onno has a new talent, he PLAYED THE PIANO during the break. And he was good. Wow, so weird. And what about your English? You said you weren't that good, but you have such a large vocabulary! =D bydaway, during geography we did nothing. Eug and I listened to music, while everyone was doing the same. It was stooopid. Now the schoolpaper. God, it's soo cool! We've decided we're (Ma, Lot, Len, me) going to interview MR WIJT! Weehoo! I'm so over-excited! You better be at school monday! <3

Look at the bright side: at least you HAVE a job. I mean, when I finally had the guts to go to the library and asked them if they might have a job for me, they told me they could put me on the waiting-list, but that there was a great chance that I might have to wait a year-and-a-half before they'd call me. A YEAR-AND-A-HALF? Don't you think I've got anything else to do? Uhm, hello, it's called a life. Try it. And even if i didn't have a life and if that was the reason I wanted to work there in the first place, they can't expect me to go on not-having-a-life. That would just be unreasonable. Besides, you are only allowed to work there if you're older than 15 and younger than 18. So if I have to wait for 18 months, I will be 17 and a half years old when they finally decide to call me. Which pretty much means that I can work there for excatly 6 months. While, by that time, I'm hoping to study at the University College of Utrecht. But sure, I'll come over to the library of Dieren for this special job. Right. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME??? So remember, even though working at the library may suck sometimes, not-working at the library sucks even HARDER.

The library in Arnhem is actually pretty cool. It's spacey and modern and much, much better than anything we've got around here! And you've got free hot chocolate, so you don't have to whine!

@Marls: UCU is cool. A friend of mine studies there and I hear nothing but great stories. Good luck with the selection bit!
